Guides

Extra reading, beside the lessons.

The ten lessons follow the calendar of a nonfiction book from a year before launch to year two. These guides answer questions that cut across that calendar. Each one points back into the lessons where a topic is covered in depth.

The guides

Four guides so far

  1. 38 book promotion ideas, sorted by cost and by jobA long list you can actually choose from. Each idea says how to do it in a few sentences, what it costs in time and money (free, a few dozen author copies, or a bigger budget), and whether it serves clients, talks or readers. Where a Scribe Media author did it, from mailing copies to prospects to asking event hosts for a book in every seat, the author is named and the story linked. A table at the top sorts all 38 by budget and job.
  2. How to market a self-published bookWhat changes when you are the publisher: you control the book page and price, buy author copies at print cost, set your own bulk prices, and do the pitching yourself. The guide sets out royalties, author copies, ISBNs, bookstores and libraries using KDP and IngramSpark's own pages, with a decision rule for whether bookstores matter to your book and a 90-day plan that points into the lessons.
  3. Book signing events and launch parties that lead somewhereA signing or launch party planned around one outcome: clients, speaking invitations or subscribers. The guide compares venues from a bookstore to a client's office, explains how bookstores order copies or take them on consignment using IngramSpark's and two stores' own terms, and gives a run-of-show, a table checklist, a consent-based sign-up sheet and a plan by week, with Scribe authors' events linked.
  4. The author newsletterA newsletter for a nonfiction book whose job is clients, talks or authority. It covers who the list is for, six issue types, how often to send, how the book brings in the first 100 subscribers (with a back matter template), a 12-issue starter plan built from chapters, and the CAN-SPAM basics read in the law itself.
